China, Jan. 6 – XPeng Inc.(NYSE: XPEV, HKEX: 9868.H) held a basketball event on December 30th, 2021, the first offline event since its official announcement as an NBA marketing partner in mainland China. Executives from both XPeng and NBA China, as well as 200 basketball enthusiasts and KOLs participated.

Many of the participants showed their grit in pursuing their passion about basketball, changing the impossible to the possible, and achieved unusual goals under a usual name. This aligns with Xpeng’s brand positioning “Be Brave in Exploration”.

“Be Brave in Exploration”

In an interview conducted in December 2021 with XPeng’s CEO He Xiaopeng, he expects the brand name “XPeng to go global”. XPeng positioned itself as an “explorer of future travel” and planned multi-dimensional transportation products, from Flying Cars to Robotic Horses.

He Xiaopeng believes that the industry is currently in the early stages of the fourth industrial revolution, and future travel will be more than electrification, connection, and sharing ability. The innovations in future travel will be revolutionary and far exceed people’s current imagination. There will be a large number of innovations from the bottom structure in China, and XPeng will be part of this innovation revolution.

For the Flying Cars, the target mass production time is set to be 2024 with the price budgeted under RMB 1 million. XPeng unveiled the design version of the sixth-generation the Flying Cars to the public in 2021, and completed more than USD 500 million in Series A financing in October 2021, intending to become the first “manufacturer of low-altitude manned flying craft in the world.” As for the Robot Horses, it plans to undergo 2 major product iterations.

While Flying Cars and Robotic Horses are still in the early stage, smart electric vehicles have already entered a period of rapid development.

In the advancement of intelligence capability, XPeng launched XPILOT 3.0 in January 2021 to achieve high-speed NGP intelligent driving capabilities. In November 2021, its P5 model, which is positioned in the home car market and is intended to be a popularizer of smart cars, officially opened for delivery. The model includes two laser radars and other hardware to support XPILOT 3.5. Moreover, the NGP intelligent driving capability for cities plans to launch in the first half of 2022.

According to Wu Xinzhou, vice president of XPeng’s automatic driving department, intelligent driving will enter the second half of game by then.

In addition, XPeng’s overcharging plan is steadily advancing. While the number of overcharging stations was only 159 at the end of 2020, the number of overcharging stations reached 500 at the end of 2021. In terms of R&D capabilities, the R&D team has more than 4,000 people by the end of 2021 Q3 , an increase of more than 100% from the end of 2020.

The market also approves XPeng’s self R&D choice. XPeng sold 82,200 units from January to November 2021, making it one of the highest delivery volume domestic car manufacturers. Its monthly sales reached 15,600 units in November, also one of the highest among the domestic car manufacturers.

The company is far from reaching the level of forming a multi-dimensional ecological layout. “We expect to have our own ecology in 5-15 years.” XPeng will help its eco-companies with manufacturing and partial sales, as well as to invest to have these companies secure adequate funds, so they can all “be brave in exploration”.
